How do I write an impressive introduction?

You can have a standard introduction format that you can apply to most of your answers which will make things easier in the exam. A good introduction is important as it sets the tone for your answer and gives the examiner an indication of what to expect from your essay. Your introduction does not have to be long, two or three sentences is fine. Use analytical phrases and literary language and ensure to use the key words from the question, for instance if it is asking you about a theme or emotion use that word in your introduction to link it to the question.

For instance, "(X) utilises a variety of linguistic techniques in his poem, (Y). (X) conjures imagery connoting the theme (Z) and his language emhasises feelings of this (Z).
