Everyone with a teenager knows that the Easter holiday is a revision holiday. Whether they have GCSEs, A Levels, IB exams or mocks, it’s the most valuable holiday for going over what they’ve learnt up until now. And we’ve got plenty of ways to help them make the most of this time.
This Easter, we’re excited to bring you over 300 5-day group courses at KS3, GCSE and A-Level. These are curriculum-focused, and students learn in groups of up to 6. Courses run from Monday to Friday, with a tutorial at the same time each day.
Group tuition can work well on its own, and it can also work with 1-1 tuition to give your child the fullest support. To help you find the best balance of learning support for your child, here are 5 key benefits of group courses and 5 benefits of 1-1 tuition.
5 benefits of group tuition
- They have fun learning with other teens
- Key topics and exam technique covered in a week
- Fun learning with quizzes and games
- Add structure to the holidays
- It’s cost-effective
1. They have fun learning with other teens
Revising can be isolating for some teens, but it doesn’t have to be. In a course, students can energise each other, help one another, and boost each other’s confidence as they learn. With groups of just 6 students, even the shyest of teens can come out of their shell and open up to other students. A sense of community can come about in group courses where other teens share the same exam worries. They can motivate each other, energise each other and work together on a common goal.
2. Key topics and exam technique covered in a week
Going over topics which they find tricky on their own can be a tough one for teens. With a course, we’ve done a lot of the work for them already – every course is designed to cover key curriculum topics and practice exam questions they need to know. Difficult topics will be explained to them by a friendly expert tutor who’s just a few years ahead in their education. They can make the toughest questions seem easy, and show teens that they don’t need to be scared of exams.
3. Fun learning with quizzes and games
Most teens might groan at the thought of revising through the holidays, but our courses are designed to be motivating, energising and fun for students. Tutors weave in quizzes, interactive tasks and games into lessons to help them memorise what they’ve learnt – especially effective if your teen enjoys a bit of healthy competition.
4. Add structure to the holidays
When it comes to the Easter holidays, one of the hardest things for teens is working out how to structure their revision days. Deciding what to study, when to study, and having the self-control to see it through, is hard for even the most organised teens.
Group courses all happen over 5 days, with a tutorial at the same time each day. So with their course booked in, it takes the challenge of time management out of the equation. You can look ahead to the holidays knowing that by Friday they’ll have covered these topics – and they’ll still have plenty of time for relaxing.
5. It’s cost-effective
With courses starting from £40 per 5-day course, you’re paying from £8/hour. If you already book 1-1 tuition, this can be a great way to give your teen even more revision support, while keeping up the momentum with their tutor. And if you’re new to tuition, these courses are a way for your child to learn from an expert tutor, paying much less than the national average cost of tuition (around £30/hour).
5 benefits of 1-1 tuition
- Learn at their own pace
- Pinpoint areas they need help with
- A mentor to boost their confidence
- Lessons fit your schedule
- Help all the way up to exams (and beyond)
1. Learn at their own pace
The great thing about 1-1 tuition is that everything is personalised for your child’s needs. If they struggle with a topic, they can go over it as many times as they need to until they’ve got it nailed down.
2. Pinpoint areas they need help with
If your child is strong in some parts of a subject, but really needs help with another, their tutor can take time to assess where they’re at – and then deep dive into those problem areas with them.
3. A mentor to boost their confidence
One of the most inspiring things about 1-1 tuition is the relationship between the tutor and student. Our tutors are students and recent grads from top UK universities, so they can easily relate to what your teen is going through. So they double as mentors, giving teens the encouragement, motivation and boost in confidence they need to do their best at school.
4. Lessons fit your schedule
1-1 tuition with MyTutor is totally flexible. If you need to reschedule or find a new regular slot – no problem. You just message your tutor and you can find a time that works for you.
5. Help all the way up to exams (and beyond)
There’s no end date for 1-1 tuition. So once you’ve found a tutor who really clicks with your child, you can keep booking lessons with them all the way up to your child’s exams, the end of term – whenever suits you.
And there you go! With the right balance of independent learning, group tuition, 1-1 or a bit of both (with down time worked in too), your child can head into the summer term ready to achieve their potential.
You can see the full range of group courses on offer on our MyTutor Groups site. And if you’d like to find a 1-1 tutor, you can have a search here. Our Tutor Experts are on hand to help you find the right course or tutor – just give them a call on 0203 773 6024.
